Collectible Motorcar of Atlanta is proud to offer this stunning example of the 1998 Chevrolet Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Edition Replica. Chevrolet produced just over 1,000 of these sought-after Corvette's in order to commemorate the 4th choosing of the Corvette to be the Official Pace Car of the Indianapolis 500. These replicas were the exactly the same as the real thing, -- with the exception of the specially fitted strobe lights on the actual pace car which were mandated by the Speedway for safety reasons. This example shows just over 1,300 miles on the odometer, which makes it one of the lowest mile examples on the market, if not the lowest.
The beloved C4 Corvette lived a long time and held the sports car mantle at Chevrolet for model years 1984 through 1996. Alas, even the best generation couldn't last forever, and in 1997 it was time for the smooth, organic looks of the new C5. The C5 carried over many of the traditional features of the outgoing C4, including a 5.7-liter (350 cu in) V8. The new engine produced 345 horsepower (up from 330 in the previous), and 350 lb-ft of torque. The Corvette's transmission was relocated into a rear-mounted transaxle assembly and made 50/50 weight distribution possible. This low mileage example is backed by a 4-speed automatic with overdrive.
If you want to be subtle, look elsewhere. Chevrolet understands that the pace cars are instant classics. Since they knew these were purchased by collectors that would show them off, they made sure these would stand out in any crowd. That's why the special color is called Radar Purple, because this vivid hue will instantly get on everyone's radar! So when you're looking at an example that has averaged less than 1,300 miles, it tells you this one retains its excellent shine because it rarely came out of the garage for anything other than parade routes. And what really sets these pace cars apart is the full graphics package. With the yellow interior, wheels and plenty of red piping, this has the same appeal of a full custom blazing fire package on a hot rod.... Only Chevy's stylists used a waving flag instead of flame tips. And if that didn't already look hot enough, where else are you going to get bright yellow alloys directly from the factory? Don't miss you chance and give us a call today to put this piece of history in your garage.
