The i8's three sources of power – a mid-mounted 228-hp turbo inline-three and AC motor and a stronger 129-hp AC motor up front create tons of brute force and power this spaceship along. This hybrid sports car accelerates like a solid-fuel rocket when eBoost is engaged by pressing the accelerator pedal through the kickdown switch. Although, when driven without aggression, this car can feel very smooth and normal. Few cars that perform this well are also as versatile to be daily driven comfortably, and this is without a doubt one of them. The i8 is capable is meandering through traffic like an ordinary family sedan, until you are needing that extra power to shoot the gap.
When it comes to the interior, the futuristic look is continued. The sleek lines and shaping is continued in the seats and dash, and provides an awesome looking cockpit. The front seats, however, are extremely comfortable, firm, luxurious, and supportive in all the right spots. The shaping is deep, so there is plenty of bolster to keep you planted during those tight turns while going top speeds. The dash is spaceship-esque and futuristic as well, with a bright and visible dash and screen entertainment screen. The interior on the i8 is different than the typical BMW interior, but still fits the motto as the “Ultimate Driving Machine”.
The final note to mention is the structure and weight of the i8. This is a very impressive feat, as the body and frame are completely carbon fiber and aluminum. This allows a curb weight of 3,484 lbs, and gives the structure of the car a very solid foundation and is very impressive for a hybrid vehicle.
