The movie and its landmark car chase need no introduction to car enthusiasts, and Ford has honored the Bullitt legacy with three homage Mustang models over the past 20 years: in 2001, from 2008-'09 and from 2019-'21. This 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt has less than 3,784 original miles—and no reported car chases around San Francisco against Dodge Chargers, either. Ford produced 5,773 Bullitt models for '08 and about 80 percent of them, like this one, were painted Dark Highland Green, just like the movie car. All were five-speed cars, too.
Powering the McQueen-inspired Bullitt model is one of Ford's 4.6-liter, three-valve, SOHC V8 engines, which was rated from the factory at 315 horsepower—15 horses more than the standard Mustang GT version of the engine.
The Bullitt model is distinguished by its unique Dark Highland Green color and absence of fog lamps or the typical “running horse” emblem on the grill—a styling cue emulated from the movie car. The exterior on this low-mileage example, is in “like new” condition, with no blemishes in the paintwork and a recent detailing that included a “full paint correction.” There is “no rust” in the body and the glass is free of scratches and cracks, while the seals are in “near perfect” condition, with no leaks.
This Mustang's black leather interior is stock, with unique Bullitt features including an aluminum, ball-style shift knob; aluminum instrumental panel trim with an engine-turned pattern; unique gauge cluster graphics; GT500-style front sport seats; and a GT500-style steering wheel with the Bullitt logo. As with the exterior, the overall condition of the cockpit is “near perfect,” with virtually no apparent wear. Additionally, all the power accessories and gauges are working normally. The same goes for the air conditioning system. The car also retains its original audio system.
The chassis, suspension, and braking components have been maintained in stock condition and are in good order, with no known needs or issues. Unique components to the Bullitt model include specific rear springs that lowered the ride height about 6 mm, along with specific shock and strut tuning and a strut tower brace. The tires are in great shape, showing most of their tread, and they're mounted on the original 18-inch aluminum wheels.
Additional paperwork for this 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt includes all the original books and service records from new, the car is a one owner, which likely helped keep down the mileage, as it was only reportedly driven on weekends occasionally. While the San Francisco Police would certainly frown on replicating that famous chase scene with this special-edition Mustang, it nonetheless channels the spirit of that iconic celluloid masterpiece.
